My name is Vicki Hiar and I’ve lived in the Heartside area for over 20 years. I have been doing artwork at Heartside since I went into remission with cancer in 1999. I started weaving rugs and wall hangings and table runners for three years or longer. I learned to do some wood burning and painted a little, but now today I am quilting wall hangings and other things by hand. I have been doing that for about 2 years now, and I enjoy it very much. Vicki passed away peacefully this month. Our thoughts are with her friends and family. Heartside Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9:30am until 3:30pm. I started doing art when I was a little kid. Coloring was a big thing for me, and I did a lot of knitting and crocheting with my grandmother and aunts. In high school I sort of got out of art for awhile, but I recently got back into it. Outer space and nature inspire me, and so do artists like Monet and Rembrandt, and classical composers like Chopin. But I do find inspiration in everything around me. My thanks go to God, as he gave me the body to express my ability. Art allows me to stay relaxed and focused, and it gives me an outlet. I believe all that it takes is a little bit of ‘want to’ and anyone can learn to be an artist. Heartside Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9:30am until 3:30pm.
